Collective Joy

 In Uncategorized

I recently wrote an article on Well-being through Collective Joy for MAPP Magazine, the alumni magazine for the Master’s of Applied Positive Psychology program at UPenn.

This article shares the role that collective joy (effervescence) plays in our individual and collective well-being. I discuss the science and psychology of the concept as well as the individual, organizational and societal applications that are possible.

Imagine a world where organizations and communities intentionally incorporate collective effervescence as a source of well-being. That’s the world I would love to o-create!

I’ve had the pleasure to cultivate collective effervescence with some organizations recently.

I worked with Arizona Racial Justice Initiative to produce their grantee and partner convening to bring together organizational leaders to support the greater racial justice challenges in Arizona.

The three intentions of the Convening were:

  1. We share and learn about the work and interests of the broader AZRJI community.
  2. We build new relationships that set the foundation for future collaboration
  3. We create a space of joy and celebration so that we feel restored and re-energized as we close out the year

Throughout the day we facilitated activities that achieved these outcomes in engaging ways. We cultivated a space where attendees could be active co-creators in the day. We can’t wait to see what ripple effects the Convening has on this community of dynamic leaders.
