Embodiment and Play
Overthinking.
Being in my head.
Swirling through thoughts.
Since the pandemic has started I’ve often found myself living in my head and disconnected from my body. There have been afternoons where I’ve zoned out into my phone for hours on end, unable to be present with myself.
My logical brain tells me that if I just think hard enough I will find clarity, pleasure or whatever I’m seeking. That hasn’t turned out so well 🙂 Maybe you can relate.
That’s why I was so glad to have the opportunity to speak with Shawnrey Lotto about what she teaches: EMBODIMENT. Shawnrey is a dancer, a sex and intimacy coach and a workshop facilitator who is on a mission to change the way we relate to our bodies.
Embodiment is the ability to feel the fullness of life no matter what we’re doing, whether we’re hunkered at home or experiencing indulgent fun in the outside world. Embodiment engages the senses and is what happens when we are savoring every moment of what we’re doing. Sound an awful lot like play, doesn’t it?
As an extrovert I have no problem feeling embodied around others in a social setting or stimulating environment. When I’m alone….HELP. I needed this conversation with Shawnrey and I hope it helps you the next time you lose touch with your body.

I hope you are feeling hopeful and trusting of yourself as the year starts to wind down. Of course, I hope you have LOTS of play in store no matter what you’re doing for the holidays.
PS. Are you following along on Instagram? Don’t miss all the fun we have going on there!
PPS. I am working with the wonderful Gwen Gordon (and former The Recess Life guest) on some events for her book, The Wonderful W, a whimsical fairytale for adults. The first one is on Monday and we’d love to have you join us! Check it out HERE.
PPPS. I loved this ARTICLE about the difference between pleasure and positive emotions. Both are amazing but serve different purposes.
